Dr. Dog: Daytrotter Session - April 19, 2010
Dr. Dog formed in 1999, although members of the group had played together for years beforehand, growing up in the city of brotherly love. After establishing a loyal local following, they started hitting nationally with the albums "We All Belong" and "Fate". The catchy grooves and harmonies drew me in quickly once I heard them. They recorded this Daytrotter Session earlier this month. It includes some songs off their most recent album "Shame, Shame".
Tracklist:
1: Welcome to Daytrotter
2: I Only Wear Blue
3: Station
4: Where'd All the Time Go?
5: Army of Ancients

Follow Up: Record Store Day
Freelance Whales took part in Record Store Day by playing a couple of in store performances including one at Rainbow Books and Music in Newark, DE. Rainbow was already hopping when I got there and quickly filled in as the band started setting up. Pretty soon everyone was standing shoulder to shoulder with little room to spare. They played a half hour acoustic set featuring songs from their debut album "Weathervanes" along with a new song called 'Rain or Shine'. To do my part for Record Store Day I picked up the new album "Shame Shame" from Dr. Dog which I'm really enjoying so far.

Record Store Day - April 17th 2010
This Saturday is Record Store Day. It's a day that celebrates independently owned record stores across the country. Artists and bands will contribute special releases that will only be available at these independent venues.
Last year, My Morning Jacket released a limited edition live EP. It was a 2 vinyl and 1 cd compilation. The closest participating store to me was Rainbow Music & Books in Newark, DE. I got down there around 11am and bought the LAST copy that they had. The guy behind the counter told me people had been coming in all morning for it. We chatted for a bit about MMJ and other music. You won't get an experience like that at Best Buy or Target.
Find one near you and pay them a visit this Saturday!

Do You Still Love Rock and Roll?...
...asks Wilco in their song 'Misunderstood'. They're playing a sold out show in Philly this coming Saturday. Unfortunately I'll be out of town and can't go. I was late getting on the Wilco fan-wagon, having only started listening to them over the past couple years. After hearing their latest albums and exploring their back catalog though, I'm hooked. Here are a few clips from youtube of what I'll be missing this weekend:
You Are My Face
You and I (with Feist)
A Shot In the Arm (funny intro by Jeff)
Misunderstood
